What makes this cemetery distinctive
Established in 1914 at the edge of Frankfurt’s city forest, the 20.5-hectare cemetery combines wooded ground, landscaped burial plots and large war-grave clearings. The site has formed part of the protected Frankfurt Green Belt landscape since 1991.
The Dutch Field of Honour commemorates 756 Dutch victims of the Second World War. Other war-grave sections contain 31 dead from the First World War and 2,874 from the Second World War.
Clear site identity
The forest cemetery lies south of Oberrad but is situated within the cadastral area of Sachsenhausen. It is not the Alter Friedhof Oberrad on Mathildenstraße.
